Iran foreign ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi

Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that Iran welcomes any action that would maintain the territorial integrity and strengthen the Syrian national sovereignty and restore stability and peace in the region.

Iran Press/Iran news: Referring to the agreement of the Russian and Turkish presidents on developments in northern Syria, Abbas Mousavi noted, "Iran welcomes any action that would preserve territorial integrity, strengthen national sovereignty and restore stability and peace in the region and in this regard considers the agreement between the Russian Federation and the Turkish Republic to end the conflict in northern Syria, a positive step to restore stability and peace in the region."

The official went on to say that, "We hope that this understanding will help address Turkey's security concerns on the one hand and preserve territorial integrity and strengthen Syrian national sovereignty on the other hand," Iran Press reported.

The spokesman for Iran's diplomatic apparatus emphasized, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes, and therefore has always encouraged the conflicting parties to negotiate to reach an agreement, and thus Adana's agreement is a good basis for removing Turkey's and Syria's concerns and does not hesitate to assist Ankara and Damascus in any way possible to dialogue and reach understanding."

Mousavi ruled out that the presence of foreign forces in northern Syria will provide security in the region, stressing that the solution to the regional problems is intra-regional, and the withdrawal of US troops would bring security and peace back.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also noted, "Fortunately, the effects of the Astana mechanism on Syria's peace and security will be more manifested with the formation of a constitutional committee in the near future, and we believe it is a major step towards restoring permanent stability and peace in Syria."  101/216
