Tehran (IP) - Various divisions of Iran’s Armed Forces staged an annual military parade on the 1st day of the Sacred Defense Week, which marks the 39th anniversary of the eight-year Ba'athist Iraqi imposed war on Iran.

Iran PressIran news: Various elite military forces from infantry and cargo units of the Army, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Mobilized Forces for Construction (Basij), Police Force, took part in the nationwide parades, which began in Tehran and 30 other cities across the country on Sunday morning. The Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics also have contributed to the event. 

These parades were held to commemorate the Sacred Defense Week, marking the 39th anniversary of the eight-year Ba'athist Iraqi imposed war on Iran, reported Iran press.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani addressed the parades at the mausoleum of Founder of the late Imam Khomeini(RH), in southern Tehran.

Several top military commanders of the Iranian Armed Forces, including Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, Chief Commander of IRGC Major General Hossein Salami, and Army commander Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim, together with other countries’ military envoys to Iran, along with some of the families of the Iranian martyrs, war-injured, and veterans attended the ceremony.

The homegrown Kowsar fighter jet also took part in the parades. This fighter was unveiled in mid-summer last year. Kowsar is the third Iranian jet fighter after Azarakhsh and Saeqeh. The domestically-developed jet fighter, utilizing a wide network of Iranian knowledge-based companies and industrial organizations of the Ministry of Defense along with other academic and research centers in the country, has been optimized for combat capability of the pilot, localized avionics and advanced 4th generation fire control as well as mechanical and hydraulic systems and the engine.

The fighter jet features an advanced integrated architecture and fire control avionics.

The fighter jet also utilizes a 4th generation digital data network, multi-purpose digital display technology, computerized ballistic calculations of weaponry and the HUD system to increase the accuracy of weapons.

The domestically-built air defense missile system 'Bavar-373' was also showcased during the parades in Tehran. Bavar-373 is a mobile surface-to-air missile system. It uses a long-range, phased-array fire control radar, dubbed Meraj 4, which can detect 300 air targets simultaneously.

Bavar-373 is a domestically-built long-range mobile air defense system that was developed after the UN Security Council passed a resolution banning the sale of advanced weapons to the Islamic Republic, which in turn suspended Iran’s purchase of the Russian S-300.

A distinguishing feature of Bavar-373 is its vertical launching system with square launchers, mostly used for air defense on warships.

The missile system uses a long-range, phased array fire-control radar and employs three different types of missiles to hit targets at various altitudes.

Iran's latest military achievements and new advanced weapons were also unveiled in the parades.

National Sacred Defense Week that starts in Iran as of Shahrivar 31 (according to the Iranian calendar year) falling on September 22, marks invasion of the Iraqi Ba'ath regime on Iran in 1980 when an eight-year imposed war began against Iran by the Iraqi former dictator Saddam Hussein who was later executed on 30 December 2006.

Sacred Defense reminds Iran of people’s resistance and the armed forces’ sacrifices.

Iraq’s eight years of imposed war gave Iran 230,000 martyrs and 600,000 war-disabled while 43,000 Iranians were kept captive by the Iraqi forces and many others have gone missing.203/214
