Iran to hold drill in Caspian Sea: Admiral Khanzadi

The top commander of Iran's Navy has said that a military exercise is due to be held in the Caspian Sea, code-named 'Sustainable Power and Security in the Caspian Sea'.

Iran Press/Iran news: Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said that the very sustainability of the security in the Caspian Sea depends much on the martial readiness of the forces and equipment as well as the cooperation of the neighboring countries.

The drill will last four days, and is aimed at achieving collective security and preserving it, Admiral Khanzadi said.

According to an Iran Press report, the Admiral added: "If we don’t preserve our military readiness in the Caspian Sea, an opportunity is likely created for global terrorism to be formed with its subsequent insecurity -- a familiar problem in many regions of the world."

The top navy commander added: "The security of the Caspian Sea must be provided by the littoral states and based on agreements already signed no non-regional country must be allowed to have a [military] presence in the Caspian Sea."

Admiral Khanzadi referred to the agreements reached by neighboring countries for the collective security of the Caspian Sea, saying three meetings have already been held on this subject, and a fourth meeting will be held in the coming month in Russia.

The Rear Admiral expressed hope that the meeting will lead to signing an agreement among the top naval commanders of the Caspian Sea littoral states, with military cooperation and interactions carried out systematically. 101/211/215
