Iran beats Italy to win Men under 21 FIVB Volleyball World Championship 2019

Iran beat Italy on Saturday night to win for the first time the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship 2019 final and be crowned the world champions.

Iran Press/ Iran news: Iran defeated Italy 3-2 (17-25, 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12) to win the world title for the first time. 

According to an Iran Press report, Italy and Iran had achieved impressive victories in the semifinals on Friday to reach the title match. 

In the other semifinal encounter between Brazil and Iran, Iran managed a straight-set (25-20, 25-14, 25-17) triumph, with Porya Yali and Amirhossein Esfandiar running the show with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Victor Aleksander Almeida Cardoso was the only player from the Brazilian side who hit the double-digit mark with 10 points.

Italy had beaten the Iranian team on the six previous occasions that the two teams had met, including in the second stage of the  World Championship 2019, but in the final match, the young Iranian team overpowered their Italian rivals to win the tournament and become world champions. This is the first time Iran has become world champion in under 21 men's volleyball and is a major triumph for Iranian sport, and volleyball in particular.

The FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship 2019 was held in Bahrain from 18 to 27 July.
