German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Friday that a video provided by the United States doesn’t prove that Iran is behind the attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

Iran Press /Europe: “The video is not enough. We can understand what is being shown, sure, but to make a final assessment, this is not enough for me,” Maas told reporters during a visit to Oslo.

Meanwhile, the EU urged maximum restraint with a spokeswoman saying: "We have said repeatedly that the region doesn't need further escalation, it doesn't need destabilization, it doesn't need further tension,” Reuters reported.

"We are gathering more information and we are assessing the situation," she told reporters.

Washington released a video that it claimed showed Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) were behind Thursday’s attacks on the Norwegian-owned Front Altair and the Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous near the Strait of Hormuz shipping chokepoint.

Iran's diplomatic mission at the United Nations has categorically rejected a US claim about an attack on two oil tankers in the Sea of Oman, forthrightly condemning the unsubstantiated US accusations in the strongest possible terms.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman also warned by saying the blame game which the United States has started is certainly not a joke, but it is rather worrying and alarming.
