Iran Press/ Asia: Speaking at a press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian called on Washington to respect the "One China" principle and halt all military support to the self-governed island. "Taiwan does not have a so-called 'Ministry of Defense,'" Lian emphasized, reiterating China's longstanding opposition to any military ties between the U.S. and Taiwan.
The spokesperson urged the United States to adhere to the "One China" principle and the three joint communiqués between the two nations, particularly the August 17 communiqué, which explicitly opposes arms sales to Taiwan. "Taiwanese authorities' attempts to seek independence through military reliance on foreign powers are doomed to fail," Lian warned. "China will resolutely defend its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity."
When asked about China's stance on the recent impeachment of South Korea's president and its potential impact on Sino-Korean relations, Lin refrained from commenting directly, describing it as an internal matter. However, he highlighted the importance of stable ties between the two nations, calling South Korea a "close neighbor and key partner."
Jian reaffirmed China's commitment to fostering healthy and sustainable bilateral relations with Seoul, emphasizing Beijing's readiness to enhance strategic cooperation for regional peace and stability.
The developments underline escalating tensions in the region, as China seeks to counter perceived U.S. interference in its domestic and geopolitical affairs.
