China urged Israel to stop its military operation in Rafah as soon as possible, warning of a serious humanitarian disaster as 1.4 million people take refuge in the city once described by Israel as a safe zone.

Iran PressAsia: "We call on Israel to stop military operations as soon as possible, do everything possible to avoid casualties among innocent civilians, and prevent a more devastating humanitarian disaster in Rafah," a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a statement.

It added China opposes and condemns actions that harm civilians and violate international law.

Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7., killing at least 28,176 and wounding 67,784 others. The death toll in Israel from the October 7 Hamas attacks stands at 1,139.

Israel had announced its goal from the beginning of the operation to destroy Hamas and then release the Israeli captives in Gaza, but after more than four months, not only has this goal not been achieved, but Israel's insistence on these two goals has caused differences in that society.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of the Zionist regime, is under extreme domestic pressure from members of the right-wing part of the government.

The Institute for Social Policy and Understanding found that most Muslim, Catholic, and Protestant Americans, including white Evangelical and non-affiliated Americans, support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Jewish Americans are more likely to support (50 percent) than oppose (34 percent) a cessation in violence.

Views on who is to blame are divided, with a majority of Jews (65 percent) and white Evangelicals (51 percent) blaming Hamas, while Muslims are more likely to blame the Israeli government (40 percent).

Speaking on the US Senate floor, Chris Van Hollen, a Democrat representing the state of Maryland, accused Israel of war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

“Kids in Gaza are now dying from the deliberate withholding of food. That is a war crime. It is a textbook war crime. And that makes those who orchestrate it, war criminals.”

“So now the question is what will the United States do?” he asks. “What will we do? What will President Biden do? President Biden must take action in response to what is happening.”

Van Hollen said: "First and foremost the president must demand that the Netanyahu government” allow more aid into Gaza, and until that happens, Biden must cut off aid to Israel."

Pressure also continues to mount on Netanyahu from the Americans as well as from the families of the captives and also those people who have been displaced on the northern side of its border.

In recent days, Europeans have also criticized America's support policies for Israel.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has suggested the US rethink its military aid to Israel due to the high number of civilian casualties in the war on Gaza.

“Well, if you believe that too many people are being killed, maybe you should provide fewer arms in order to prevent so many people being killed,” Borrell told reporters after a meeting of EU development ministers in Brussels.

“If the international community believes that this is a slaughter, that too many people are being killed, maybe we have to think about the provision of arms,” he added.
