Iran Press/Iran news: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday said that the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran undermined the cease-fire negotiation process in Gaza.
In a telephone conversation with Iran's acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri, Yi expressed China's strong opposition and condemnation of the assassination, stating that such actions severely breach international norms, infringe on Iran's sovereignty, security, and dignity, disrupt the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, and have repercussions on regional peace and stability, as per a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Yi said that China has always supported all parties in safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests, especially supporting Palestine in restoring its legitimate national rights.
Yi emphasized the importance of the international community coming together to establish a unified effort to compel all parties involved in the conflict to diligently adhere to pertinent Security Council resolutions and facilitate the necessary conditions for promptly achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, as per the statement.
Chinese top diplomat reiterated that Beijing supports Iran in defending its sovereignty, security and national dignity in accordance with the law.
Beijing, he added, also supports Tehran's efforts to maintain regional peace and stability, and is willing to maintain close communication with Iran. 219
