Chelsea have broken the world record for a transfer fee in women’s football by completing the signing of Colombia striker Mayra Ramirez from Levante for €450,000 (£384,000) plus up to €50,000 (£42,600) in add-ons.

Iran PressEurope: That total deal would surpass the approximately £400,000 (including add-ons) that was understood to be paid by Barcelona to sign Keira Walsh from Manchester City in 2022, even when taking into account differing currency exchange rates.

Chelsea’s deal for Ramirez, who was one of the star’s of Colombia’s run to last summer’s World Cup quarter-finals, is also by far the largest ever fee paid by a Women’s Super League club, comfortably eclipsing the approximately £300,000 that Manchester City reportedly spent to sign The Netherlands’ Jill Roord last summer.
