Iran Press/ Africa: A ceremony to mark the 34th anniversary of the demise of the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, has been held in Kampala, Uganda today.
Organized by the cultural consulate of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Uganda, the event was attended by clerics, university lecturers, and students, under the theme of Imam Khomeini’s view on the issue of social justice and its role in increasing the spirit of self-belief and self-confidence in society.
Moulana Ali Abbas Rizavi, the Imam of Khoja Shia Mosque Kampala, Uganda, said that Imam Khomeini is one of the most influential figures in modern history.
“Imam Khomeini’s teachings and principles have left a lasting mark on the hearts and minds of millions, inspiring them to strive for a more just, fair, and impartial world,” he said.
He added that Imam Khomeini was not only a political leader but he was at the same time a spiritual and religious leader and authority, who stood as an inspiration for the whole Islamic ummah and the world.
“God's religion calls for social justice in the real sense of the word: it calls for uprooting poverty, ignorance, and oppression; and Imam Khomeni’s greatest contribution was that he took this idea out of the texts and put it into action and made everybody believe that it is possible to achieve social justice.
This created a sense of self-confidence and the spirit of self-belief and inspired many across the globe. He not only stood for the social-justice in Iran but his revolution was the ray of light that illuminated people's hearts and minds beyond borders and he defended every society that was being oppressed. Social justice is one of the most important and fundamental guidelines in his political school of thought,” Moulana Ali Abbas Rizavi added.
He noted that it was Imam Khomeini’s fundamental guideline that, the issue of administering social justice, advocating underprivileged classes, and taking action in this direction.
“Imam Khomeini firmly believed that social justice is an important element and feature of a harmonious and prosperous society. He underlined that every individual, regardless of their social status, race, or religion, deserves equal opportunities and rights. He recognized that a society can only thrive when its members feel a sense of fairness and inclusivity, where the gap between the rich and the poor is diminished, and where justice prevails over oppression,” Moulana said
He stated that one of the key aspects of Imam Khomeini’s view on social justice was his steadfast commitment to the principles of Islamic ethics and values. He noted that Imam Khomeini emphasized the importance of compassion, empathy, and solidarity, urging individuals to look beyond their own needs and reach out to those who are marginalized and oppressed. He believed that it is the duty of the strong and privileged to support and uplift the weak and vulnerable, fostering a sense of unity and cohesion within society.
