Iran Press/Iran News: It was on Sunday morning, December 8, 2024, that the media reported the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's government with the armed groups entering the Syrian capital city of Damascus; a news then confirmed by the command of the Syrian Army.
Sabah Zangane described the development in Syria as a social process that showed that if any government refuses to rely on its people, its fate could turn into an instructive lesson to others.
He touched on the internal and external factors leading Syria to the current situation where the people of the country resorted to supporting such militant groups as Jabhat al-Nusra, Fath al-Sham, and the like.
The alignment with the militants, Zangane said, is the result of a situation wherein the people get disappointed with any political solution so they move forward with a force that could change the status quo.
"Of course, the people still do not know with what goals, with what plan, with what policies the militant groups will rule and whether they will use discrimination, massacre, and violence or will behave peacefully. Yet, they know that a change will be achieved and that the change must gradually show itself at the level of politics, economy and culture."
But with respect to the future of the developments in Syria, the Iranian political expert said that it is early to say that the new militant system, led by Ahmed al-Shar' or the very Muhammed al-Jawlani, taking power in Damascus whether would refer to the public opinion and polls or would impose its political view in the Syrian nation.
The militant groups began to encroach on some parts of Aleppo on November 27, 2024, while attacking army positions, and step by step reached Damascus' royal palace.
