During a meeting in Minsk with Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko emphasized the need to accelerate the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.

Iran Press/Asia:   Alexander Lukashenko expressed anticipation for the visit of Mr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the Iranian President, following his official invitation.

On Friday, Lukashenko asked Ahmadian to convey his warm greetings to both the Supreme Leader of Iran and the President of the Islamic Republic.

He noted the recent tragic loss of the helicopter carrying the former Iranian President, stating, “The Iranian nation has recently endured a great tragedy with the passing of your President. However, you bravely elected a new leader. I congratulate you on this event and want to convey to your President that we in Belarus are awaiting his visit.”

Lukashenko highlighted the complex political conditions currently facing the world, stressing that the shift towards a multipolar world necessitates more than just consultations; it requires the two nations to jointly enhance their cooperation. “In the politically and militarily critical conditions in the West Asian region, as well as at Belarus's borders, our two countries are in the same boat and need mutual consultations and actions,” he remarked.

Ahmad Shirzadian reported that Lukashenko noted security is guaranteed when the economy is strengthened, urging Iran and Belarus to expand their economic relations more than ever before. He affirmed that Belarus has always been a reliable partner for Iran and aims to continue on this path.

Lukashenko expressed gratitude for Iran’s support of Belarus's membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), emphasizing that the strengthening of organizations like the SCO and BRICS provides new opportunities for independent countries around the world.

Ahmadian, in this meeting, recalled the recent exchanges of visits by diplomatic delegations from both countries, including the Belarusian President’s trip to Tehran in March 2023 and his meeting with the Supreme Leader. He also thanked Lukashenko for the presence of the Belarusian delegation at the inauguration of the new Iranian President and the memorial service for the previous President.

Conveying warm greetings from the Supreme Leader and the President of Iran, Ahmadian assured Lukashenko that he would pass on his invitation to the Iranian President. He emphasized the longstanding partnership between Iran and Belarus and expressed hope for expanded cooperation across all areas.

Ahmadian also commented on recent developments in the international system, stating that the world is transitioning from an old order to a new one. He noted that the United States, as the leader of the old order, is strategically weakened, highlighting an unavoidable shift towards a new global order forming in the East, particularly in Asia and Africa. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of moving towards the future while leaving the past behind.

The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council is on an official visit to Minsk at the invitation of his Belarusian counterpart and also held separate discussions with Alexander Wolfovich, the Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus.
