Tehran (IP) - In a poignant tribute on the anniversary of General Qassem Soleimani's martyrdom, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, highlighted the martyred commander’s pivotal role in combating terrorism across the region.

Iran Press/Iran News: Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Baghaei honored General Soleimani, calling him “the commander of hearts” in a time when warfare is often measured by destruction. “Great generals are not conquerors of known lands in geography; they are the conquerors of hearts, and that is why their conquests always remain,” he wrote, reflecting the reverence with which the late commander is regarded.

Martyr Soleimani, a revered figure for his leadership of the Quds Force, the overseas arm of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), was pivotal in counterterrorism efforts. He was martyred in a targeted U.S. airstrike near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020. The strike, which also martyred Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces), was carried out on the direct orders of then-U.S. President Donald Trump.

The assassination sparked global condemnation, with many viewing General Soleimani’s martyrdom as cementing his legacy as a defender of the oppressed.
