China faces a new cluster of COVID-19

A cluster of Covid-19 cases in China’s Rust Belt region has intensified worry over the second wave of coronavirus infections.

Iran Press/Asia:  A cluster of Covid-19 cases in China’s Rust Belt region has intensified worry over the second wave of coronavirus infections.

The central and local leadership have instituted strict measures, including halting public transport services for more than 100 million people and sealing off residential compounds in some cities, as Chinese President Xi Jinping called for strengthened controls.

While many other countries are still grappling with the first wave of outbreak, this re-emergence in China, while still small, is putting the world on alert.

Earlier, one of China's top medical advisor has warned about a second wave of COVID-19 in the country.

"The majority of Chinese at the moment are still susceptible to the COVID-19 infection, because of a lack of immunity," Zhong Nanshan, the public face of government's response to the pandemic said.

Zhong, who helped expose the scale of the 2003 outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), also said authorities in ground-zero Wuhan had under-reported cases during the early days of the pandemic.
