Cape Town (IP) - Paying tribute to the purified household of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), mourners have listened to ten nights of talks on the role of the Ahlul Bayt in reviving Islam.

Iran PressAfrica: It culminated with a procession through the streets of a suburb in Cape Town, South Africa, marking the night of Ashura or the 10th Muharram. Mourners braved the cold winter weather to demonstrate their love for Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad who was martyred on the plains of Karbala.

In addition to the traditional flags associated with the Karbala procession, the Palestinian flag was also hoisted to represent the current struggle and sacrifice for justice and truth over evil, resembling the battle of Imam Hussain and his followers. The procession concluded at the Ahlul Bayt Mosque complex where speeches were delivered espousing the bounties of the family of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and remembering the sacrifice at Karbala.

Poems and lamentations in African languages, as well as Arabic, Urdu, Punjabi, Turkish, and Farsi, have also echoed through the commemoration programs, depicting the diverse Shia community in this region.
