UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres: Libya likely gets into civil war

UN Secretary General warned over eruption of civil war in Libya, expressing concern about the trend of changes in the country.

Iran Press/AfricaAntonio Guterres warned that in case practical measures are not taken in short-run to end the conflicts in Libya, the country will face civil war.

He stressed on reaching a political solution to end conflicts in Libya, a work which requires the full support of international community, reported al-Jazeera.

Guterres urged the conflicting parties to put aside weapons, and terminate their air raids and bombarding residential areas.

"I urge all parties to stop using explosive weapons, including by aerial bombardment or shelling, in populated areas because of their likely indiscriminate effects," the secretary-general said, according to al-Jazeera.

The UN Secretary General also expressed worry over the presence of foreign forces fighting for the conflicting parties in Libya.

After Libya's revolution which led to the overthrow of the ousted dictator Mua'ammar Gadaffi, the county was brought into violence and instability by US and some European countries.  

Libya has turned into a battle field of the forces loyal to renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar, and the UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) in early April. 203/215
