Muslims in Turkey celebrate Eid al Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadhan, a month of fasting and worship, with Eid prayer on Tuesday 4 June.

Iran Press/Asia: Eid al Fitr, meaning 'Festival of Breaking the Fast', is celebrated in Turkey at the end of the holy month of Ramadhan with prayers on the morning of  Eid, Iran Press reported. Turkey's 'Religion Organisation' had earlier declared that Tuesday 4 June 2019 is the day of Eid al Fitr, and on Tuesday morning Eid al Fitr prayer was held in every Mosque and Mossalla throughout Turkey.

Eid al Fitr is announced at the beginning of the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, Shawwal, which follows the blessed month of Ramadhan. The sighting of the moon is therefore important in announcing the start of a new lunar month.

This year, Eid begins on June 4 and ends on June 5 in Turkey, marking the Ramadan 29 - or the 29th day of fasting - which falls on June 3. Muslims will celebrate the religion’s 1,440th end of fasting.

Eid follows Ramadhan, which marks the month in which the Holy Qur'an was first revealed to Prophet Mohammed (blessings of God upon him and his progeny).

Muslims celebrate Eid to show their gratitude to Allah for allowing them to finish and fulfil their obligation by fasting, completing good deeds in the month that Muslims consider as being better than 1,000 months.

Eid and the prayer of Eid is also an opportunity for Muslims to ask the Almighty forgiveness for past sins, and to wipe the slate clean.

Many other Muslim countries are also celebrating Eid al Fitr on Tuesday, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, Afghanistan and Kuwait. The Sunni Muslims of Iraq are also celebrating Eid al Fitr on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the Muslims residing in other countries also performed the prayer of Eid including the Muslims of Russian capital of Moscow.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an on June 3 congratulated the Turkish nation on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
