Large numbers of Palestinians have marched on the 50th anniversary of al-Aqsa mosque fire in the blockaded Gaza strip, remembering the arson attack on the Holy al-Aqsa mosque in 1969.

Iran PressMiddle East: A sizeable crowd of Palestinians gathered in the Gaza strip on Wednesday, on the 50th anniversary of al-Aqsa mosque fire in the city of al-Quds.

Although 50 years have passed since an arson attack by an extremist on the Holy al-Aqsa Mosque, Palestinians in Gaza demonstrated on Wednesday to mark the occasion and show their opposition to the Zionist regime and its crimes against Palestinians and expansionist policies in the occupied territories.

The blaze on 21 August 1969 destroyed the Mihrab (or prayer niche) in the Holy al-Aqsa Mosque in eastern al-Quds.

The demonstrators in Gaza on Wednesday chanted slogans against Zionist crimes and atrocities in Palestine, and loudly declared their support for the Palestinian cause, vowing to defend the city of al-Quds and the Haram al-Sharif and the al-Aqsa mosque, until their last breath.

The demonstrators once again declared the city of al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the eternal capital of an independent Palestinian nation, vowing never to allow Donald Trump's 'Deal of the Century' to be realized in any shape or form.

The protesters declared al-Quds as the capital of Palestine.
