Tehran described the US call for an urgent meeting with members of the world's top nuclear watchdog to discuss Iran's issue, a "bitter irony".

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's permanent representative to Vienna-based international organizations in a statement on Friday night, said that US actions including the recent call for a special meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, indicates America's isolation in rejecting multilateralism and the rule of law in international relations.

"It is indeed a bitter irony that the concern about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)'s implementation is being raised by the very regime which has practically violated the JCPOA through its illegal and unilateral withdrawal from the deal, and has pressured others to do the same," the statement said according to Iran Press.

Iran's representative emphasised that all the issues related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) should be considered within the framework of the agreement.

The statement also noted that US president Donald Trump's actions have led Iran to reduce its commitments to the 2015 nuclear deal.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says it will hold an emergency meeting on Iran next week, a few days after a planned increase in the level of Iran's uranium enrichment, which will come as part of the country's reduction of its commitments under a multilateral 2015 nuclear deal to reciprocate Europe’s inaction to fully abide by the agreement.

A spokesman for the UN's nuclear watchdog announced on Friday that the meeting of the IAEA's Board of Governors will be held on July 10.

The emergency meeting will be held at the request of US Ambassador to International Organizations Jackie Wolcott.

Iran's enriched uranium stocks exceed 300kg

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on July 1 that the country has increased the stockpile of its low-enriched uranium production to over 300 kilograms as had been already announced by the country in line with paragraphs 26 and 36 of a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On the first anniversary of the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, Iran announced that it would suspend the implementation of some of its commitments under the deal, announcing that it would stop exporting excess uranium and heavy water, setting a 60-day deadline for the five remaining parties to the deal to take practical measures towards ensuring its interests in the face of the American sanctions.

In the second phase of scaling down its JCPOA commitments, Iran plans to increase the purity of its enriched uranium on Sunday, no longer sticking to the 3.67% limit it had agreed upon in the deal.

Last Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani said at a cabinet meeting that Iran would increase its level of uranium enrichment after 7 July to any level it may need for its peaceful activities.
