Japan Foreign Minister Taro Kono said his country will not follow the United States in labeling Iran's elite military force a terrorist group.

Iran Press/Asia: Kono told reporters on Tuesday Japan does not intend to toe the line, and Tokyo has maintained a close relationship with Iran.

He said Japan will say what it must to the country and continue working to solve problems through discussion and dialogue, Japan's NHK reported.

US President Donald Trump designated Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization on Monday 8 April 2019.

This is the first time Washington formally labeled another country's military a terrorist group.

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps has a key role in fighting the US-backed terrorist groups in the middle east region.

The IRGC provides advice and assistance to fight the Takfiri terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria, following official requests from governments in Baghdad and Damascus, an action that is by no means appealing to the president of the United States, Donald Trump.101/202
