Tehran (IP) - The Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah who arrived in Tehran on Saturday, discussed major regional developments as well as bilateral ties in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Iran Press/Iran news: The visit of Omani Foreign Minister Yusef Ben Alawi is in the context of regular consultations between the two countries. He is slated to meet with senior Iranian officials and exchange views on the latest developments in the region.

After meeting with his Omani counterpart, Zarif said in a tweet that in this meeting, effects of the US’ Economic Terrorism on Iran; bilateral relations, regional developments and security in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, were discussed.

The Omani top diplomat is also scheduled to meet with  Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani.

The Oman Foreign Minister met with Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran on May 20 and exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional and international issues.

Iran and Oman share age-old and close diplomatic, economic, and commercial ties.

Oman’s Sultan Qaboos played an important role in facilitating the early stages of nuclear talks between Iran and the world power which resulted in the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran and Oman have also held several naval exercises in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman in recent years. 101
