London (IP) - Tens of demonstrations against the monarchy in London were arrested on the coronation day of "Charles III" in Britain.

Iran PressEurope: Police have arrested the leader of the anti-monarchy group Republic and 51 others at King Charles III's coronation, saying their duty to prevent disruption outweighed the right to protest.

Republic said its leader Graham Smith had been detained on Saturday morning and a photo posted on Twitter showed him sitting on the ground surrounded by police officers.

Republic had said it would mount the biggest protest against a British monarch in modern history. Protesters wore yellow t-shirts to stand out and held up signs saying, “Not My King”.

They spent most of the service booing or singing songs, such as “He is just a normal man”.

In the country's first coronation service in nearly 70 years, Britain's King Charles III was crowned on Saturday along with Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey, the site of nearly a millennium of coronations in Britain since 1066.
