Senior aide to the speaker of parliament Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

A senior aide to the speaker of parliament and former deputy foreign minister of Iran has stressed that the Americans and Zionists want to bring back the Ba'athists in Iraq.

Iran Press /Iran News: In an interview on channel two of Iranian television on Monday night, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said the Americans and the Zionists want to recreate the former Ba'athist regime in Iraq, because it suits their objectives.

Commenting on the recent violent protests in Iraq, Amir-Abdollahian said: "Today the Americans and the Zionists are using social networking sites and cyberspace to destabilise Iraq and to make it insecure, and they are trying their hand at regime change. They want a government in Baghdad which suits them."

In further remarks, Amir-Abdollahian said apart from ISIS terrorists who caused havoc and bloodshed in Iraq, other American plots and conspiracies have all failed in successive elections in the country, where the votes of the Iraqi people have scuppered America's schemes.

He added: "US policies in Iraq have failed, one after another."

It should be noted that in recent days widespread protests against corruption, high unemployment, high prices, and a lack of amenities and public services have taken place in the country, with some instances of clashes between the protesters and police.

The violent protests have prompted Iraqi politicians, including prime minister Adel Abdol Mahdi, to promise a serious fight against Bureaucratic corruption in Iraq, as well as building of affordable housing for the less-well-off and low-income families. The prime minister has also promised to create jobs for young unemployed Iraqis.

Adel Abdol Mahdi has also called on all Iraqi political parties to join him in "reforming the  country".
