At least 3,017 people have died in the United States from Covid-19, while death toll in Italy rose to 11,591 with 812 new ones. In Spain it reached 7,340 with 800 in last 24 hours.

Iran Press/America: At least 3,017 people have died in the United States from Covid-19, almost one out of every five US deaths reported during the coronavirus crisis was reported Monday, Reuters reported.

Total deaths across the United States hit 3,017, including at least 540 on Monday- makes Monday the deadliest day since affected by the virus, and the reported cases climbed to more than 163,000.

New York cheered the arrival of a gleaming 1,000-bed U.S. Navy hospital ship as a sign of hope in the city’s desperate fight.

People in New York and New Jersey lined both sides of the Hudson River to cheer the U.S Navy ship Comfort, a converted oil tanker painted white with giant red crosses, as it sailed past the Statue of Liberty accompanied by support ships and helicopters.

Hospitals in the New York City area have been overrun with patients suffering from COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the virus.

Officials have appealed for volunteer healthcare workers.

The United States has the most confirmed cases in the world, a number that is likely to soar when tests for the virus become more widespread.

In California, another hard-hit state, Governor Gavin Newsom said the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations had nearly doubled over the past four days and the number of ICU patients had tripled. Officials there also appealed for medical volunteers.

The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Italy rose by 812 to 11,591, while the total number of infections surged past 100,000 with 4,050 new cases reported.

More than 800 people died in Spain over the last 24 hours - reaching 7,340.

The UK's deputy chief medical officer says social distancing rules will be reviewed after three weeks - but warned that this period could last for six months.

In France and Spain, many hospital officials say they are stretched to the limit.

Worldwide, the total number of infections recorded since the beginning of the outbreak reached more than 775,000. Some 160,000 people have recovered globally while nearly 37,000 have died.
