Bahrain snatched a 1-0 victory over Malaysia to keep hopes for reaching round of 16 as South Korea and Jordan have ended their Saturday match in a 2-2 draw as part of the group E stage of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar.

Iran Press/ West Asia: Bahrain won 1-0 at home over Malaysia in the second matchday of group E of the Asia Cup 2024, the goal was scored by Ali Madan at minute 90+6'.

In the second round of the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup, the national teams of Bahrain and Malaysia faced each other in Group E.

Both teams entered the match without any points as they lost their first-round matches. Bahrain was defeated by South Korea with a score of 1-3, while Malaysia suffered a crushing defeat to Jordan with a score of 0-4.

In the first half, Juan Antonio Pizzi's wards had the upper hand, while Malaysia tried to play on the counterattack. It's worth noting that there were very few genuinely dangerous moments.

In the second half, Bahrain was closer to scoring a goal, and in the 96th minute, they achieved their desired result. The precise shot was credited to the right winger Ali Madan.

Jordan, South Korea end match in 2-2 tie

During the early minutes of the game at the Al Thumama Stadium in Qatar, Son Heung-min opened the scoring for his team, netting a goal in the 9th minute with a penalty kick. Before the end of the first half of the game, Korea’s Park Yong-Woo made an own goal, bringing the game to a tie in favor of Jordan.

In the second half of the game, Yazan Al Naimat scored the second goal for Jordan in the 6th minute of extra time. However, the game was brought back to a tie with an own goal from Yazan Al Arab in the dying moments of extra time.

Following the game, Jordan maintains the lead in Group E with 4 points, followed by South Korea with 4 points, Bahrain, and Malaysia with zero.

Both teams have displayed high levels of performance in the tournament so far, securing three points each in their respective opening matches.

Jordan started its journey this year on a strong note, dominating Malaysia with a commanding 4-1 victory, pushing them to the top of Group E. 

Meanwhile, South Korea defeated Bahrain with a 3-1 triumph, extending their unbeaten streak to an impressive nine games across all competitions, boasting seven victories.

In the final match of the group stage, Bahrain will play against Jordan, and Malaysia will face South Korea. Both matches will take place on Thursday, January 25.
