IP - So far, 72 people have died, and dozens missing in unprecedented flash flooding in Spain's southeast in western Europe; A flood many European officials believe will occur in other parts of the continent because of the inevitable consequences of climate change.

Iran Press/Europe: The worst affected area is the province of Valencia on Spain's eastern coast along the Balearic Sea part of the greater Mediterranean Sea.

Search and rescue operations in the area are ongoing after a deluge of flash flooding slowed but rains persist into the weekend, according to Spain's weather organization reports.

High amounts of rain in Valencia province poured from rivers and rolled into streets in towns like Utiel and Paiporta from Tuesday to Wednesday causing a flash flood.

Spain's Defense Minister Margarita Robles described the flooding event as an "unprecedented phenomenon," and said that more than 1,000 Spanish military personnel have been deployed to assist in aid and rescue operations.
