Health Minister Saeed Namaki

Tehran (IP) - Health Minister Saeed Namaki said that 50 to 30 percent of beds in Iran are empty, noting there are 15,000 empty beds in convalescents care centers.

Iran PressIran NewsNamaki made the remarks on Tuesday at an open session of the parliament, saying that up to now, over 71 million people have participated in National Mobilization Plan for Combating Coronavirus which decreases the number of people going to the hospitals.

"We are the 7th country regarding infected ones and the 6th country in death toll and it will be better in near future too," the minister stated.

Referring to the steps taken, he said that in the first step we had social distancing and in the second step we will have smart social distancing and based on all experts' opinions it must be continued considering the fact that our country faces economic war.

Pointing to the sanctions imposed on Iran, the minister said: We had problems in importing masks and medical gowns, but now WHO asks for holding video conferences and sharing our knowledge and experience with other countries.

Worldwide, the total number of infections recorded since the beginning of the outbreak reached more than 1,350,000. Nearly 285,000 people have recovered globally, while the global death toll has neared 75,000.

In Iran, more than 60,000 have been infected with COVID-19, nearly 3,800 have died and the number of recovered patients has reached 27,000.
