Nigeria (IP) - As the people of Nigeria prepare for the second day of nationwide protests against insecurity, hunger, and high cost of living on Friday, an Iran Press report says that 26 people were killed on the first day of the protest.

Iran PressAfrica: Those killed included ten in Suleja city of Niger State of the North Central of the country and a police station was also set ablaze.

The other killings included three in Kaduna State in the Northwest, four in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in the Northeast, seven in Kano, one in Abuja, and also one in Kebbi State.

Apart from those killed, a 24-hour curfew was also declared in three states Borno, Yobe, and Kano. Businesses, banks, shopping plazas, and some markets did not open for fear of the protests escalating into a crisis.

After covering the first-day protest in Abuja, an Iran Press correspondent trekked on foot for more than 20 kilometers to his home because there were no taxes or vehicles in the streets.

In Kano State with the largest population, people stormed the government's warehouse, shops, and offices during the protest and looted food and some other valuable items.

In Jigawa State, the angry protesters set ablaze the headquarters of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

APC is the country's ruling party. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has reacted to the protests which held across the nation, on Thursday, saying a policeman was murdered but did not give details.

Speaking in a Press Conference, the Police boss who described Thursday’s action as mass uprising, said his men had been placed on red alert.
