At least 100 people have reportedly burned to death in Nigeria after a tanker loaded with petrol collided with another trailer carrying passengers and cattle, resulting in a devastating explosion.

Iran Press/Africa:  The tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning around 1:00 a.m. in the Agaie Local Government area of Niger State, located in north-central Nigeria.

According to Alhaji Abdullahi Baba Arah, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, initial reports confirmed the deaths of 50 individuals. However, local resident Malam Bala Muhammad, who spoke with an Iran Press correspondent, indicated that the death toll has risen to 100, with victims burned beyond recognition.

The trailer involved in the collision was transporting cattle from Kano State in the northwest to Lagos State in the southwest when it collided with the oil tanker, igniting a massive fire. Another passenger vehicle attempted to pass near the burning wreckage and also fell victim to the flames.
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations. Eyewitness accounts and video footage revealed the harrowing aftermath, with both vehicles completely charred and numerous cattle perished in the blaze.

This incident highlights the issue of road safety in Nigeria, where a lack of reliable infrastructure often results in deadly accidents. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and are working to support the families of the victims during this tragic time.
