Iran Press/West Asia: According to the source, "We eliminated dozens of terrorists amid chaos and mass escape within their ranks and destroyed a large number of their vehicles and weapons." The operation was conducted with support from both Syrian and Russian air forces, artillery, missiles, and armored units.
This operation comes amid escalating tensions in the region, as the terrorist groups have gained ground in Homs following a recent offensive.
The situation remains fluid, with ongoing clashes reported between government forces and the terrorists.
On the other side Kurdish units of US-backed SDF militants have taken western parts of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor governorate and areas near the border with Iraq, which were controlled by government troops, the Erbil-based Rudaw television channel said, citing the SDF command.
According to the SDF command, this decision was made after government forces and National Defense Forces (NDF), which support them, withdrew from Dei ez-Zor, Mayadin, and Albu Kamal on the border with Iraq. Syrian troops and NDF militias redeployed to Palmyra, which is a target of attacks by units of the al-Nusra extremist group and pro-Turkish Syrian armed opposition groups.
The Firat agency earlier quoted SDF commander Mazloum Abdi as saying that Islamic State militants had invigorated their activities in some areas of the Syrian Desert.
Apart from that, Kurdish units are engaged in fighting near the city of Aleppo in northern Syria. According to Abdi, talks are underway to evacuate 250,000 people from Aleppo’s besieged Kurdish quarters.
