Iran Press/ Iran news: The Event of Mubahala was a meeting between Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his family, Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS), and a Christian delegation from Najran (present-day Saudi Arabia) in the month of Dhu’l-Hijja in the 10th year after Hijra, where the Holy Prophet (PBUH) invoked a curse attempting to reveal who was lying about their religious differences.
The Prophet (PBUH) decided to participate in Mubahala and took up an invitation to meet with the Christians. During the event, each side was to condemn the liar, asking God for punishment.
However, when the Christian delegation saw the immaculate faces of the Prophet (PBUH) and his family, including Imam Ali (AS), Lady Fatima Zahra (SA), Imam Hassan (AS), and Imam Hussain (AS), they were astonished; thus, they refrained from seeking condemnation towards the Prophet and his household (AS).
They knew that the Prophet’s Dua and his family’s Duas would be accepted, so the Bishop of Najran asked the Prophet (PBUH) for forgiveness and compromise.
On this occasion of the anniversary of the event, the Instagram page of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, republished some parts of his speeches about Mubahala.
“The event of Mubahala is about monotheism. The Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) discussion with the Christians of those days – the Christians from Najran – which had led to the day of Mubahala [and asking God to damn the liars], was about Jesus (PBUH),” said the Leader on July 31, 2020.
“The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that Jesus (PBUH) was God’s servant and Prophet, but they believed in something different. They decided to organize a Mubahala. As you have heard, when they met the Christians were forced to retreat,” he added.
In another speech on Dec. 13, 2009, Ayatollah Khamenei says: “On the day of Mubahala [the day Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) met with Christian missionaries over the dispute concerning the Oneness of God], the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) brought the dearest people with him.”
“The important point is that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) selected his dear ones to come for Mubahala, which was supposed to help distinguish between right and wrong and to be in front of everyone’s eyes. “Come! Let us gather together - our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves. Then let us earnestly pray and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie!” [Holy Qur’an, 3:61] On no other occasion did the Prophet (pbuh) bring his children, his daughter and Imam Ali (PBUH) - his brother and successor - into the arena to promote Islam and clarify the truth. This shows how exceptional the day of Mubahala is.”
“This shows the extraordinary importance of communicating the truth and clarifying the truth. He brought them for Mubahala and told his challengers to invoke God, asking that whoever is telling the truth may remain and whoever is lying be removed by divine punishment.”
