Iran Press/Iran News: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a twitter message quoted a remarkable saying of Imam Hussein (A.S) to demonstrate the model of Iranian nation resistance and glorifying sacrifices of beloved Shiites' Imam.
"Since 680 CE, millions of Muslims have commemorated the martyrdom of Imam Hussein," Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted a twitter message on the eve of the Ashura on Saturday.
"Honoring his great sacrifice has ingrained resistance to tyranny and injustice in hearts and souls of his followers for centuries: "I do not see death but bliss, and life under tyranny but misery," Zarif added in his post to show why Iranian people observe so eagerly mourning rituals for third Shiites Imam since 680 CE and demonstrate who the Iranian nation follow to continue their resistance against tyranny and injustice.
Around 680 AD, Imam Hussein (PBUH) along with his 72 followers were massacred in the battle of Karbala in Iraq by the forces of the tyrant ruler of the time, Yazid, the second Umayyad caliph.
The mourning ceremonies reach their peak on the 9th day of Muharram, or Tasua, and the 10th day, or Ashura, when Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his companions were martyred.
Tasu'a precedes Ashura on the 10th day of Muharram, when Imam Hussein [AS], a grandson of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
Today (Saturday) coincides with the ninth day of Muharram (Tasua) 1442 AH (August 29, 2020). On this day, many places in Iran are covered with black banners, and people mourn for Imam Hussain (AS).
