The Syrian army says the country's air defenses have intercepted and downed hostile targets, including an Israeli warplane and four missiles over the country’s southern region.

Iran PressMiddle East: Syrian military sources told SANA news agency that the air defenses intercepted hostile targets over al-Kiswah region and downed them.

The sources added that the Syrian Air defenses foiled the aggression and the enemy failed to achieve any of the targets as the defenses dealt with all the hostile targets and downed them.

"Our air defense forces shot down an Israeli war plane and four missiles before they reached the targets," a Syrian security source was quoted as saying by Russia's RIA Novosty news agency.

However, speaking to Reuters, an Israeli military spokesman rejected the RIA Novosty report as "bogus".

On September 16, an Israeli missile attack targeted the Damascus International Airport, activating air defenses which shot down some of the incoming projectiles.

Syrian state media had earlier cited an unnamed source as saying that the country's air defenses had shot down “enemy targets” over the town, without specifying the nature of the target or its origin, Syrian SANA reports.

Other sources reported that objects had fallen from the sky near Harfa village, but it was not clear if it was an intercepted missile or debris from an interceptor missile.

The Israeli regime has fired many missiles at Syrian military bases and at Syria's infrastructure, in support of various terror groups which are active in Syria.  The fact that terror groups in Syria have been almost eradicated, or are very close to being eradicated, has made the Zionist regime anxious and dismayed.101/202
