Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday performed Eid al-Adha holiday prayer at al-Rawda Mosque in Damascus.

IranPress/MiddleEast: President al-Assad was accompanied in the prayer by the Minister of Religious Endowments (Awqaf), Grand Mufti of the Republic, a number of senior officials, People’s Assembly members, religious scholars, and a number of citizens, SANA reported.

According to IRNA , director of the Damascus Department of Religious Endowments Khedr Shahrour lead the prayer and delivered the holiday sermon, in which he talked about the symbolism and meaning of Eid al-Adha which emphasizes sacrifice, redemption, and faith.

Shahrour said this holiday comes at a time when Syrians are experiencing the joy of victory thanks to the wisdom of Syria’s leader and the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab Army, asserting that President al-Assad “steered the ship towards safety with wisdom and ability, proving to be a skilled captain.”

He prayed to God to protect Syria and its people, aid its army, have mercy on its martyrs, heal its wounded, and grant President al-Assad success in realizing the nation’s interests.

The tenth day of the month of Zil Hajjeh, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is the Eid al-Adha festivity , also known as Eid Ghorban or the Feast of the Sacrifice.

 

On this day, the Hajj pilgrims, after completing their Hajj rituals and traditional rites, sacrifice (slaughter ) an animal on the plain of Mena , and following this , what was religiously forbidden for them during the Hajj period , becomes 'Halal" or allowed , such as clipping their finger nails, combing their hair, and looking at themselves in a mirror.
