Five days ago on Friday, the media affiliated with the Saudi and UAE-led coalition like Sky News and Al-Arabiya claimed that the Hudaida airport had been captured by their forces.
After the Saudi and UAE-led coalition attacks failed to capture the airport on Saturday, some of their forces were surrounded by Yemeni forces and the sea was their only way to escape.
According to reports, the Saudis’ airstrikes on the airport and the surrounding areas intensified on Tuesday and their media once again claimed that the airport has been captured by Saudi troops.
At the same time Sky News quoted the general commander of the West Coast Front (Hudaida) as saying that the coalition forces had taken the airport from Yemeni forces, but it corrected their news story an hour later and said that the clashes were still continuing in areas around the airport.
Meanwhile, their claim was once again rejected by Yemeni media including Al-Masirah on Tuesday that reported heavy Saudi and UAE coalition’s casualties in areas near the Hudaida airport.
More than 34 tanks and armored vehicles belonging to the Saudi and UAE coalition were destroyed during a week, Yemeni media reported on Tuesday.
It was also reported yesterday that the Deputy chief of UAE Armed Forces Major General Eisa Saif al-Mazrouei had been killed in the fights, bringing the number of Saudi and UAE-led coalition mercenaries killed in the battle to more than 253.
