Tehran (IP) - A senior MP has expressed his condolences to all those who lost a loved one in the recent floods, praising the military, security forces, IRCG, and Red Crescent organizations who provided aid in flood-ravaged areas.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an interview with Iran Press International News Agency on Wednesday, Mohammad Reza Aref, parliamentary leader of reformist Hope faction in the Iranian parliament, said: "Fortunately, at the beginning of this New Year, we have had a significant amount of rainfall and precipitation which is good news. However, the amount of rain caused some problems in various provinces, and we weren't fully prepared for this amount of rainfall."

He added: "Fortunately there was good coordination and liaison between relevant decision-making organizations, and in particular good coordination with aid and relief organizations. This coordination led to the limiting of flood damage and losses. Also, the general public helped as well, and I want to thank the general public for their assistance, particularly in Tehran.

The senior lawmaker who was speaking at a press conference at the offices of Governor-General of Tehran added: "I am so grateful for what people did and still do to help the military, the security forces, IRCG, Army, Basij, and Red Crescent organizations who are providing aid and assistance in flood-hit regions." 

Mohammad Reza Aref, leader of the reformist Hope faction in the Majlis went on say: "In many provinces, with good coordination between the relevant organizations, in particular, search and rescue teams, we succeeded in limiting the damage from flooding more or less."

Aref added: "In Tehran, we have called on Governor General of Tehran to give us a report about the performance of the crisis management committee, and any deficiencies in this regard, and it seems that we can do more with regards to prevention, contingency plans and informing the general public."
