The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran (SNSC) Vice-Admiral Ali Shamkhani in his meeting with Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that completion of the North-South railway is significant for the region as well as the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Iran Press/Iran news: Noting the development of comprehensive relations, especially the promotion of economic relations between Tehran and Baku, SNSC Secretary underlined that it has been the will and desire of the people and leaders of the two countries and in the interests of security and stability in the region.

Shamkhani pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran is fully prepared to overcome obstacles in the way of implementation of comprehensive agreements between the two countries, Iran Press reported.

The high-ranking Iranian official emphasized that the common border is a valuable opportunity and the gateway for peace and friendship between the two countries, and went on to say, "There are many ways to increase the level of trade between the two countries, which can lead to prosperity, stability and security for both countries."

Shamkhani said friendly relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have not been to the detriment of any country and are never affected by regional and trans-regional destructive factors.

Shamkhani referred to the historic, cultural and religious ties between the two neighboring countries and discussed regional developments and ways of expanding bilateral cooperation with Mammadyarov in the meeting.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, for his part, referred to the talks between the two countries as effective, and said that the Republic of Azerbaijan is willing to increase exchanges with Iran and welcome the initiatives and proposals presented.

He added that Baku will continue the process of promoting economic cooperation with Tehran, and sanctions cannot have a negative effect on the good relations between the two countries.  105/211/205
