Iran's Parliament Speaker, Ali Larijani in a meeting with the visiting Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan called for a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Iran Press/Iran news: Ali Larijani in a meeting with Republic of Azerbaijan's Foreign Affairs Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, underlined that the statements made by the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri during his visit to Azerbaijan represent the official position of Iran.

Larijani expressed support for a negotiated settlement of the conflict that preserves the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Iran Press reported. 

Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri on his visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Defense Minister Lieutenant General Zakir Hasanov on January 16, 2019 in Baku reiterated Iran's support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia.

The Republic of Azerbaijan's foreign minister informed Ali Larijani about the on-going negotiations between Yerevan and Baku on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan is in favor of peace and stability of the region.

Elmar Mammadyarov also conveyed the sincere greetings of the Chairman of the 'Milli Mejlis' (national parliament) of Azerbaijan 'Ogtay Asadov' to the Speaker of Iran's Parliament, Ali Larijani.

Ali Larijani for his part thanked the Minister and requested from his side, to convey his sincere greetings to the attention of Ogtay Asadov.

At the meeting two sides discussed about current mutual developing relations in the fields of political, economic, cultural and other spheres.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov informed the Iranian Speaker about the bilateral economic projects under implementation and the activity of the Interstate Joint Commission between the two states was assessed.

Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, also noted the contribution of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group to bilateral relations.

The visit of Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, to Tehran takes place a few days after an Azeri economic delegation headed by the country’s economy minister Shahin Mustafayev traveled to Iran for bilateral talks on expansion of economic cooperation.105/211/205
