Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami has praised Iran's stunning progress in defense industries by saying: "Thanks to the blood of the martyrs and the progress made in the field of science and defense, the enemies of the Islamic Republic are in a weak position."

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking to an academic audience of lecturers, researchers, students and elites at Shiraz University and Defense Ministry Research Laboratories on Sunday, Brigadier General Amir Hatam said: "Today, thanks to the Islamic Revolution in the last 40 years, the role played by universities in development and advancement of science and technology in many different fields has been very significant."

He added: "One of the most valuable achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran was to cut our dependence upon the arrogant powers, and other countries, specially with regards to healthcare and security matters, and university researchers and academics played a crucial /key role in this regard."

Referring to the scientific capacities created in the country over the past four decades, defense minister Hatami said conducting research in a university setting is much cheaper than conducting research in industry or other sectors, because students during their studies, while having specialized training, submit a thesis on a research topic, and this can be a valuable help to advance the country's goals in research, and create sustainable sources for research.

Emphasizing the rapid developments in science and technology, he referred to the important role of research laboratories in upgrading the nation's deterrence power, arguing that research laboratories should be able to predict developments in science and technology and anticipate the technologies needed in the defense industry over the next 30 years.

Saying that the role of research labs around the world is a decisive factor in advancing policies and strategies, Brigadier Hatami said "Today's Islamic policy is a deterrent policy which is considered a religious and national belief in Iran."

Earlier on 6 November 2018, the deputy chief coordinator for the Islamic Republic of Iran's Army, rear admiral Habibollah Sayyari has said all military and defence systems used by the Iranian Army are manufactured at home by Iranian experts.  208/211/103
