Iran has been deemed as safe as Australia when it comes to travel security.

Iran PressIran news: Global risk experts International SOS and Control Risks ranked Iran's nation alongside countries such as Canada, the United States, China, Australia, the UK, Zambia, Morocco and Argentina as having low travel security risk in its interactive 2019 Travel Risk Map.

A low travel security risk means violent crime rates are low and racial, sectarian or political violence or civil unrest is uncommon, Iran Press reported.

The majority of European countries are deemed low risk, including the UK; as are Iran, Jordan, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Uzbekistan in the Middle East.

On Apr. 28, the head of Iran's Cultural Heritage Organization Ali Asghar Mounesan emphasized that Iran's tourism industry is expanding.

“If terrorism is a threat, groups have limited operational capabilities, and acts of terrorism are rare,” International SOS said.

“Security and emergency services are effective and infrastructure is sound. Industrial action and transport disruption are infrequent,” International SOS added.

Iraq and Afghanistan are among more than 15 countries that have been labelled extreme in terms of security risk to travellers. War ravaged Syria and Yemen have also been given an extreme rating.

“Government control and law and order may be minimal or non-existent across large areas,” International SOS said of its extreme risk description.

“Serious threat of violent attacks by armed groups targeting travellers and international assignees. Government and transport services are barely functional.”

Meanwhile, countries such as Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Finland have been listed as being “insignificant” in terms of security risk. 101/201
