Iranian foreign minister met his Afghan counterpart in Geneva, Switzerland on the sidelines of a UN-backed conference on Afghanistan.

Iran Press / Europe: According to the official website of Iranian Foreign Ministry, at this meeting on Tuesday, Mohammad Javad Zarif and Abdullah Abdullah exchanged views on the agenda of the Conference and the latest developments in Afghanistan including the peace process and the fight against terrorism, Iran Press reported.

They also talked about various issues in bilateral relations between Tehran and Kabul.

Iranian foreign minister on the sideline of the Conference about developments in Afghanistan held a meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet.

In this meeting, Mohammad Javad Zarif described unilateral, unlawful and cruel American sanctions against the Iranian people as flagrant violation of human rights.

Referring to the reliance of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the backing of the people as the only sustainable factor for maintaining the national security of the country, Iranian foreign minister said that respect for human rights is not only a moral commitment, but also a National security requirement.

Bachelet also expressing her satisfaction with the visit, and said she is ready for constructive and useful engagement with Iran.

The Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is in the Swiss city of Geneva to attend a ministerial conference on Afghanistan, co-chaired by the Afghan Government and the UN.

Organized by the UN and the government of Afghanistan, the Geneva Conference kicked off earlier Tuesday with high-ranking officials from over 60 countries as well as a large number of representatives from international bodies in attendance.
