New civilian Sukhoi jets, SSJ100R modification will be built without US-made components and will be supplied to Iranian airliners.

Iran press/Europe: The Sales agreement of SSJ100R civilian jets between Russian Sukhoi Company and Iranian airliners will be implemented by substitution of US-made parts, Russian Sputnik website reports. 

The Russian company will supply Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100R) jets to Iran after the share of US components in the plane falls to less than 10 percent, the Sukhoi’s president, Alexander Rubtsov, said on Thursday.

The preliminary signed memorandums of understanding between Russia and Iran in April 2018 on the sale of 40 SSJ-100s by 2022 stopped after US decision to re-impose sanctions on Iran.

The problem was that 22 percent of the jet’s equipment was produced in the United States.

But in May 2018 the Sukhoi press service announced the parties are studying in detail the possibility of supplying an updated version of the aircraft — SSJ100R, which is implemented under the program of import substitution of the SSJ100 components,"

The new SSJ100R modification will be built without US-made components to avoid contract obstacles posed by US sanctions.

After US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, which lead to the loss of upwards of $40 billion contracts for Boeing and Airbus for civilian jets to Iran, Russian airplane manufacturers gains a historic opportunity to open new market for its latest designs.

The SSJ100 is a twin-engine plane made by Russia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company. It can carry up to 98 passengers and fly at a distance of up to 2,470 miles. The jet made its maiden flight in May 2008.
