Iran beats Italy, grabbing bronze medal at World Soccer Beach Games

Iran's beach soccer team earned a bronze medal in the Association of National Olympic (ANOC) Committees World Beach Games after defeating Italy.

Iran PressMiddle East: Iran's beach soccer team played the third-place playoff game of the World Beach Games versus Italy on Wednesday and defeated its opponent in the penalties.

Both teams had finished 5-5 after full time.

Team Melli had lost the previous game to Russia 6-2 in Doha’s Katara beach in the semi-final on Tuesday.

Italy also lost to Brazil 7-5 in the other game of the semis.

A total of 16 teams, divided into four groups of four teams, competed in Qatar's World Beach Games.

More than 1230 athletes from 97 countries competed at the ANOC World Beach Games in Doha.
