The Secretary General of Lebanon's Hezbollah movement has admonished the United States for recognizing Israel's illegal occupation and annexation of Syria's Golan Heights.

Iran Press/Middle East: The secretary general of Lebanon's Hezbollah movement, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah called the US recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights as a violation of the international consensus on the issue.

US President Donald Trump's "decision defies all international resolutions and the international consensus," Nasrallah said in his first reaction to Monday's move by the US president.

According to an Iran Press report, Nasrallah added: "I told the Palestinians that not before long, Donald Trump will claim that the occupied West Bank is also sovereign Israeli territory. The Arabs, and the Arab League must give an appropriate response to the Americans and the Israelis."

In further remarks, Nasrallah said the recognition of occupied Golan Heights as the territory of the Israeli regime by the US president is an insult to the Muslim and Arab world.

"The Golan is occupied Syrian territory," Nasrallah added.

Turning to Palestinians, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said the only option for Palestinians to restore their long-denied rights is resistance, and it is only through resistance that they can revive their lawful rights.

The Hezbollah leader also strongly criticized US secretary of state Mike Pompeo's visit to Lebanon, lambasting Pompeo's claim that Hezbollah was Lebanon's only problem. He asked rhetorically: "Is Hezbollah Lebanon's only problem? Pompeo didn't even mention the Zionist regime which has invaded neighbouring Lebanon on several occasions."

US President's proclamation on recognizing the Zionist Regime's sovereignty over the illegally-occupied Golan Heights of Syria has led to a wave of regional and international condemnations.

US President Donald Trump on 25 March 2019, signed a proclamation recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Syrian territory as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump's Jewish son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner were standing at his side in the White House in Washington. 211/104
