Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman has expressed sympathy for the victims of mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, United States.

Iran Press/Iran news: Seyyed Abbas Mousavi on Sunday expressed his message of condolence to the victims of mass shootings in Texas and Ohio, wishing a speedy recovery for all the people injured in the two incidents. He said the massacring of dozens of US citizens is regrettable.

The total death toll from Texas and Ohio's mass shootings currently stands at 29, with a further 42 people injured, Iran Press reported.

Every year thousands of people lose their lives or get wounded in gun attacks, gun violence and mass shootings in the United States. Based on official statistics there are around 270 to 300 million guns in US, which means almost one gun per American citizen.

A gunman who opened fire at a shopping centre in El Paso on Saturday killed 20 people. At least 26 people were injured in this incident.

Despite the requests of civil rights advocates in US, the US Federal Government has not managed to restrict gun sales or bring in more effective legislation to limit gun sales.

US president Donald Trump is one of the supporters of the gun lobby.

He had earlier said in the beginning of his presidential term that an 8-year period of restriction on gun-owners was over, and that now they had a real supporter in White House.  207/211/215
