Eight new Iranian-made pharmaceutical products have been unveiled at a special ceremony attended by Iran's Vice-President for Science and Technology, and the Governor of Alborz province.

Iran Press/Iran news: The Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari unveiled eight new pharmaceutical products in Alborz province on Sunday. The special ceremony was also attended by the Governor of Alborz province, according to an Iran Press report.

Omeprazole Micro Pellet, Tamsulosin hydrochloride, Naltrexone Base, Sitagliptin phosphate, Pioglitazone are among eight pharmaceutical products unveiled.

Omeprazole Micro-Pellets is a widely used proton pump inhibitor that is used in the treatment of peptic ulcers. Omeprazole is marketed as an enteric release formulation, and is very valuable for treatment of peptic ulcers. The product is offered as a semi-finished formulation in a pelletized form.

Sitagliptin phosphate is a drug used with a proper diet and exercise program and possibly with other medications to control high blood sugar. Sitagliptin is a diabetes drug that works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins. It is a medication used to treat diabetes mellitus type 2.

Pioglitazone is a diabetes drug (thiazolidinedione-type, also called 'glitazones') used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It works by helping to restore body's proper response to insulin, thereby lowering your blood sugar.

Pioglitazone is a drug prescribed for treatment of type 2 diabetes. It has side effects including sore throat, low blood sugar, sinusitis, and headache.

Some of these drugs are used for treatment of digestive disorders.

Temad pharmaceutical company in Alborz province, where the special unveiling ceremony was held, is itself a leading exporter of pharmaceutical drugs. The company has exported $ 8 million dollars worth of medicines to 43 countries last year.

The Vice-President for Science and Technology, Sorena Sattari, is due to visit some other leading science and technology companies as well.

Alborz province is home to around 85 hi-tech medical and pharmaceutical companies, and is a prominent centre of medical equipment manufacture and pharmaceutical drug manufacture in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
