Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Saeid Abdevali

Two Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers Saeed Abdevali and Pouya Naserpour defeated their opponents on the first day of World Wrestling Championships.

Iran Press/Asia: In the 82-kilogram category, the Iranian Greco-Roman world champion and Olympics’ medal winner Saeed Abdevali overwhelmed his Czech opponent Petr Novak 9 to zero on the first day of the World Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan.

Pouya Naserpour, another Iranian wrestler in the 55-kilogram category, also crushed his Turkish opponent Serif Kilic 8 to zero but was stopped by Uzbek wrestler Ilkhom Bakhromov in the next round, who has won a gold medal at the Asian Championship, Iran Press reported.

Naserpour will have a second chance if Bakhromov reaches the final.

The World Wrestling Championships kicked off in Kazakhstan's capital Nursultan on Saturday.

On the first day of the championship, the elimination round, quarterfinals, and semifinals were held in 55, 63, 72 and 82-kilogram categories of Greco-Roman style, in which four Iranian wrestlers took on their opponents.
