Defense Minister Brigadier General Hatami:

Tehran (IP) - Agreements have been reached with Russia and China since the end of the arms embargo, the Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said, adding that Tehran is ready to sign military and security agreements with the Persian Gulf states.

Iran PressIran News: Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami told Iranian IRINN News Channel: "The end of Iran's arms embargo is an opportunity to buy arms that we need and sell the arms we made to others."

General Hatami added: "We have reached an agreement with Russia and China on the arms sales after embargo lifted."

Iranian Defense Minister said: "We have reached important agreements with Russia regarding the expansion and development of Iran's air force systems."

"Starting an arms race that will turn the region into a powder keg isn't our aim," he said.

On 18th October, the Iranian Foreign Ministry released a statement on termination of UNSC Security arms restrictions and travel ban, saying the definitive and unconditional termination of arms restrictions and travel bans requires no new resolution.

All restrictions on the transfer of arms, related activities and financial services to and from Iran, and all prohibitions regarding the entry into or transit through territories of the UN member states previously imposed on a number of Iranian citizens and military officials, are automatically terminated.

The expiration of the decade-old UN restrictions, take place on 18 October, come after an unsuccessful US campaign to convince countries to defy the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the accompanying UN Security Council resolution 2231 to extend the ban on Iran's arms industry.

In another part of the interview, General Hatami referred to the tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh. He said that Iran had given official and clear warnings to the Republics of Azerbaijan and Armenia about the security of the border areas.

Rejecting the accusations related to Russia's use of Iran's borders to transfer weapons to Armenia, the minister said: "We have never given our borders and lands to Russia to transfer weapons to Armenia."

Brigadier General Hatami added: "We expect Turkey, as an important and friendly country in the region, to help resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through diplomacy."

He further referred to the issue of normalization of relations between some Arab countries and the Zionist regime and added that the normalization of relations between the UAE and Bahrain with the regime directly threatens the security of the Persian Gulf region."

The Minister of Defense emphasized that any threat from the Zionist regime in the Persian Gulf region will lead to a clear and direct response from Iran.

Brigadier General Amir Hatami has stated that Iran will not negotiate with the US over its missile system and that no one has the right to make such a request to Iran.
