There are many grounds for cooperation between Iran, Afghanistan: Abdullah

Tehran (IP) - The Chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, referring to the trade of about three billion dollars between Iran and Afghanistan, said that there are many areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Iran PressIran news: Referring to the historical relations between the two countries, especially in the last 20 years, the Chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council of Afghanistan said in a television program on Sunday night that the Islamic Republic of Iran has assisted in some Afghan development projects, and level of cooperation in many areas including cultural area has spread, and this cooperation continues.

Noting that tens of thousands of Afghans studied in Iran and returned to their country, Abdullah Abdullah added: "Relations and investments have been established between the private sectors of the two countries, and Iranian private companies' activities continue inside Afghanistan."

The Afghan official, pointing to his country's civil war, stated: "The people of Afghanistan are tired of conflict and war. We have to show in practice that we are interested in peace". "The Afghan government is ready to negotiate, but the Taliban have not yet agreed. Kabul hopes that the Afghan people will felt progress in reducing violence because peace is the Afghan people's main demand," he said. 

He noted that the fate of the people in Afghanistan should be determined through free voting, and the two sides must agree on a comprehensive solution, the outcome of which must be acceptable to all the people of Afghanistan.

Abdullah Abdullah arrived in Tehran on Sunday for a three-day visit and meeting with Iran's high-ranking officials to discuss the ways to expand bilateral relations and peace and stability in Afghanistan.
