EU slams missile attacks on Ganja

The spokesman for the European Union (EU) on Saturday issued a statement condemning the rocket attack on the Azerbaijani city of Ganja, which killed and wounded a number of civilians.

Iran Press/Europe: The European Union deplores the strikes on the Azerbaijani city of Ganja during the night of 16-17 October resulting in civilian loss of life and serious injury, Spokesperson of the EU Peter Stano said.

“All targeting of civilians and civilian installations by either party must stop. The ceasefire of 10 October must be fully respected without delay,” Stano said.

Earlier, the Iranian embassy in the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a statement condemning the attack and extending condolences to the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured calling It as an international war crime that must be stopped as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan announced on Saturday that 12 people were killed and 40 others were wounded in a missile attack by Armenian forces on Ganja (the second largest city of the Republic of Azerbaijan) this morning.

Ganja is located 368 km west of Baku, the second-largest city in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Military clashes between the forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia have resumed after a pause of several weeks since October 26.

After several days of military clashes in July (mid-July) between the forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, which resulted in casualties on both sides, the war of words and some military movements escalated tensions in the Caucasus and led to a military confrontation between the two.

Despite the ceasefire agreement reached in the talks between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan in Moscow on October 9, the ceasefire agreement has been repeatedly violated in recent days in the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.
